- For the master’s tools will never dismantle the master’s house. They may allow us temporarily to beat him at his own game, but they will never enable us to bring about genuine change. And this fact is only threatening to those women who still define the master’s house as their only source of support.Highlighted by 629 Kindle readers
- The white fathers told us: I think, therefore I am. The Black mother within each of us – the poet – whispers in our dreams: I feel, therefore I can be free.Highlighted by 600 Kindle readers
- I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own. And I am not free as long as one person of colour remains chained. Nor is any one of you.Highlighted by 547 Kindle readers

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 November 2020This is a very short but powerful collection of essays and papers from the late 1970s to early 1980s. Audre Lorde was an American self-described Black, lesbian, feminist. She was also a powerful poet. The few papers reproduced here could easily have been written yesterday. That says something terrifying. In the paper entitled 'Learning from the 1960s' presented at Harvard for the 1982 Malcolm X Weekend, she states: "... we must recognise that many of our high expectations of rapid revolutionary change did not in fact occur. And many of the gains that did are even now being dismantled." That rings as true today as it did in 1982. Yet these papers also stress unity despite difference, and strength from within. I think everyone should read Audre Lorde. She spoke/speaks sense.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 November 2020A short hope through the works of Audrey, who provides an insight into the contributions of others to promote change.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 February 2024Helped raise my awareness and empathy for her particular lived experience. It supported my reflection on identity and racial and ethnic identity. It helped me understand women's anger at injustice and oppression; the importance of hearing and understanding it and understanding its complex, systemic causes and conditions.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 December 2020This is a must read. It doesn't matter who you are. If you are of the oppressed or the oppressor, these wise insights will make you understand your role in your own liberation. Liberation from a norm which suppresses thought, maintains control through in-fighting and whose discourse creates depair. Marvellous.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 December 2018Everyone could benefit from reading these essays. Liberation not empowerment and a recognition that it’s not individual autonomy alone that will make change happen, we need to be alert at all times to the struggles of women and children who have the least privilege; it’s the struggle of the group, of women as a sex class everywhere that needs our attention. Aufdre Lorde understands that it’s system change that needs to happen. And we will keep fighting for that
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 June 2020Audre Lorde's authenticity is like a fire that ignites my own. I'm eager to read more and do my own work.

Lorde’s theory is iconic and vital to understanding the foundation for Solidarty among women.
