Platoon (1986)

Directed by Oliver Stone

As a young and naive recruit in Vietnam, Chris Taylor faces a moral crisis when confronted with the horrors of war and the duality of man.

"We were really fighting ourselves" is an awful cliché when deployed by sports commentators. But to use it to not only excuse grotesque war crimes but to essentially claim that the Americans were the 'real' victims of Vietnam is actually difficult to process.
