The Shining(1980)

Dir. Directed by Stanley Kubrick

The Shining was one of the highest-grossing films of 1980, but it also confirmed Kubrick’s reputation for outsize expenditures of time and resources. An average ratio of film shot to final cut was then around 10:1. For The Shining, it was 102:1.

David Bromwich (London Review of Books)

Jack Torrance accepts a caretaker job at the Overlook Hotel, where he, along with his wife Wendy and their son Danny, must live isolated from the rest of the world for the winter. But they aren't prepared for the madness that lurks within.
