I kept reading this theme into The Mauritanian, where the higher echelons of the US military were portrayed as the primary aggressors, this time against camp detainees who were serving as a proxy for liberal values. No doubt the poor leadership meme is true to a certain extent, but it does invite the audience to conclude that the only thing US foreign policy requires is 'better' generals. Or, perhaps, more control from the executive branch of government over the armed forces…
