At heart, [Marcel] Ophuls really loved the movies. According to the famil, on May 23, 2025, the day before he died, he watched—not for the first time, of course—Ernst Lubitsch's To Be or Not to Be (1942) and then went to bed. He had planned the following day to view his favourite Lubitsch film, Heaven Can Wait (1943). But heaven just couldn't wait to be challenged, and Marcel Ophuls passed away in his sleep that night at the age of ninety-seven.
