Days of Thunder (1990)

Directed by Tony Scott

Talented but unproven stock car driver Cole Trickle gets a break and with the guidance of veteran Harry Hogge turns heads on the track. The young hotshot develops a rivalry with a fellow racer that threatens his career when the two smash their cars. But with the help of his doctor, Cole just might overcome his injuries-- and his fear.

This is essentially high-1980s camp rather than a '90s movie', especially with its obvious direct parallels to Top Gun (1986). It's fairly entertaining on a surface level, but perhaps more interesting when it tries to address some of the perceived problems of Top Gun — particularly around the earlier film's noted homoeroticism.
