Seattle International Film Festival 2023: Film #8
I really enjoyed the very small, comedic character moments, as well as Jane Adams as slacker mum Paulene, but the rest of this movie, especially the screenplay, was strikingly poor given my prior expectations, with most of it weaker than material churned out by the lesser streaming networks. Particularly poorly-executed was the 'Eyes Wide Aspen' subplot, but the usual plot points of the coming-of-age drama (the crush, the drug offer, the dislike of your own body, etc.) were badly handled, more redolent of amateur fiction than a professional feature film.
