Angel's Egg(1985)

Dir. Directed by Mamoru Oshii

Looking like Cosette from the infamous poster of Les Miserables, the Girl carries a hugely symbolic egg through a postapocalyptic city accompanied by a scripture-citing Older Man who shoulders a weapon shaped suspiciously like a crucifix. Together they avoid the fishermen-cum-soldiers who throw harpoons at giant floating fish that no longer have bodies; only shadows. I don't understand what is going on, and then the film ends in a way that evokes Tarkovsky's Solaris (1972).

Synopsis: In a desolate and dark world full of shadows, lives one little girl who seems to do nothing but collect water in jars and protect a large egg she carries everywhere. A mysterious man enters her life... and they discuss the world around them.
