Seattle International Film Festival 2025: Film #5
I liked how generous this was towards the folks espousing their unorthodox science of vibrational energy, but I loved how deadpan this was most of all. The scenes with the red candle seemed to suggest that the Invention itself can punch through to the dimension making the film Invention itself, which should be considered in light of the screenplay's silence towards its actual efficacy. Nice lofi indie feel that would pair well with a double Western Massachusetts feature with the slicker Janet Planet (2023). You would call it 'crunchy' if the environment wasn't quite so obviously damp.
Synopsis: In the aftermath of a conspiracy-minded father’s sudden death, his daughter inherits his patent for an experimental healing device. Featuring archives from Callie Hernandez's late father, Invention explores the process of grieving a complicated parent, and the filmmaking itself becomes a part of the process.
