Seattle International Film Festival 2025: Film #19
It would be unfair to quip that "we've got Chocolat at home", but Claire Denis' film seems to orbit this one, even from a respectful distance. Doubtless Don't... is the more accessible work. Another film that the child's narration evokes is Days of Heaven (1978).
Synopsis: Growing up in the midst of the Zimbabwean War for independence, 8-year-old Bobo internalizes both sides of the struggle. Conflicted by her love for people on opposing sides, she tries to make sense of her life in a magical way.
