LUZ(2025)

Dir. Directed by Flora Lau

Seattle International Film Festival 2025: Film #16

Got Blade Runner meets Paris, Texas vibes from this one. But even without it ending so abruptly, I get the sense it would take three hours of runtime to explore all of the themes, threads and theoretical ideas from the first act.

Synopsis: In the neon-lit streets of Chongqing, Wei desperately searches for his estranged daughter Fa, while Hong Kong gallerist Ren grapples with her ailing stepmother Sabine in Paris. Their lives collide in a virtual reality world, where a mystical deer reveals hidden truths, sparking a journey of discovery and connection.
